Plains is a small town located in western Meade County, in southwest Kansas. The town was founded in 1887 by a group of businessmen and it was originally named “West Plains” but changed to Plains a few years later. Plains grew slowly but steadily over the years and in the 1900s, it has become a hotspot for agriculture, with crops such as wheat and corn, and commercial cattle and dairy. Today, the town has a population of 1,100 people, and there are many small businesses such as restaurants, retail stores, hair salons, construction companies, and much more.
The town’s city park is a great place to enjoy in the summertime, whether at the swimming pool, tennis courts, playground, or at the nearby golf course. Although Plains celebrates their past, they are also constantly growing and offer many opportunities for residents' futures.
